As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been having all the fun researching various strategies that we language teachers can use to develop our students’ critical thinking skills for my upcoming ACTFL presentation. One new activity that I discovered via this post<\/a>, is called Hexagonal Thinking. For this activity, students work in small groups to discuss and move hexagonal shapes (manipulatives or Google Slides) to show connections between words or concepts. In this example, Vampire<\/em> and Chauve-souris<\/em> are both touching Sang<\/em> because both may drink blood. Maison Hant\u00e9e<\/em> is connected to Vampire, Effrayant, Sorci\u00e8re <\/em>and Loup-Garou<\/em> because all might be seen at a haunted house. Loup-Garou <\/em>and Sorci\u00e8re<\/em> are both D\u00e9guisements<\/em> and if someone is dressed in a D\u00e9guisement <\/em>as a Loup-Garou <\/em>or Squelette, <\/em>they might receive Bonbons.<\/em> There are, of course, a myriad of ways to connect these words and the longer students spend on the task, the tighter their web will be (and the more interpersonal speaking they will have done) !<\/p>\n\n\n\n
